The Trill Die Young

Our original plan for this entry was to post 20-something tracks spanning across the 15-year timeline of Pimp C (aka Chad Butler) and UGK. However, a few of our dot com brethren beat us to the punch in ways with which we could never compete. Two outlets in particular have given us UGK and Pimp C treasure troves. XXL posted a whopping 54 tracks of C-related material. (Fader did us the justice of archiving links of all nine XXL posts—you can find the 54 tracks within said posts.) Also, Matt Sonzala, best known for his blog HoustonSoReal, did a three-hour Pimp C tribute on his radio show Damage Control on the evening of December 4th, which was the same day C's body was discovered. The show featured call-ins from people close to C, and Sonzala received a text, which he read aloud, from Bun B.

XXL and Sonzala have this Pimp C tribute thing on lock, and it leaves little work for the rest of us. So I've decided to focus on newer C-featured tracks that came out this year, since everyone else seems to be posting the "legacy" tracks recorded way back when. I won't pretend I'm some old school UGK fan—I honestly just got into them in the past few years. But I think the 2007 Pimp C was dropping some joints that are just as good and potentially as important as the circa '91 UGK tracks on which everyone is focusing.

I've also included some of my favorite audio interviews and spoken segments by the one Sweet Jones. The man was seriously like a modern-day Richard Pryor.

Big up all the media outlets (on and offline) who have put respect and responsibility first and reported C's life and legacy rather than a bunch of speculative booty chatter about the manner of his passing. Obviously we're all curious about his untimely death, but the autopsy and toxicology results won't be available for another eight weeks. So let's continue to respect Chad's family and friends by celebrating his work and saving the rest for later.

Oh, and it's probably understood, but _all_ the following content is very, very NSFW. (And if you don't know, now you know.)
