It took a while for this to register with me, but all the recent "Paper Planes" brouhaha can be attributed the new Seth Rogen flick, The Pineapple Express. Oddly enough, the song isn't even on the film's soundtrack, but it does appear on the trailer. As a result, the general American public thinks "Paper Planes" is kinda neat, so much so that it peaked yesterday at #2 on the U.S. iTunes store's "Top Songs" chart. (Today it's back down to #3.)

In any case, the song's unfashionably late indoctrination into mainstream American pop culture has made it suddenly cool with several household-name rap dudes, including Freeway and now Jim Jones:
