Mad Decent Announces Joint Venture With Downtown

Just a quick heads up for those of you who haven't heard. Diplo has just announced a new joint venture between his label, Mad Decent, and Warner sublabel Downtown Music. Read more on Billboard.

This essentially means that Mad Decent, a label caught up in the bustle of not-quite-legit mixtapes, bootlegged re-edits and uncleared samples, will get some major label shine. This is quite a bold move on behalf of Warner, and it's certainly a testament to a changing-but-overwhelmed music industry that can't quite make up its mind on whether it would rather arrest these kinds of whippersnappers or work with them.
