Skream - "Trapped in a Dark Bubble"
Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 09:30PM
I find it a bit awkward how all these American DJs, who have ignored dubstep for a good four or five years, are suddenly all on its jock, even though Pitchfork—in all its enormity—has been covering the genre pretty extensively since 2005, and XLR8R has been doing so for probably even longer.
Both Snoop and Lil' Jon had out-of-nowhere dubstep projects recently, and Mad Decent just signed Rusko. All this seemed to happen within the span of a week. So now the entire continent is playing catchup, including AiMT, seeing as this is the first dubstep track I've posted.
I've bumped the occasional dubstep joint for a few years now. I've paid attention to Planet µ's dubstep lineup, and Burial's Untrue was a big eyeopener for me (as it was for many people). Oh, and I probably listened to Rusko's Essential Mix four or five times. But that's pretty much the extent of my courtship with the genre. (Still a noob, y'all.)
So yeah, I'm indeed a part of the whole falling-in-line North American dubstep movement, and I have no business posting this new Skream track, but here it is anyway. It comes from a new split EP with Benga:
