Storm Queen - "Look Right Through"

Morgan Geist

I've written that Environ is my favorite U.S. dance label on a number of occasions, and I'll stick by that claim. But crikey, if they'd only release more than one or two singles per year. The good thing about that long wait is that it almost never disappoints, as is the case with label head Morgan Geist's new project, Storm Queen.

Not many details about this track/project have surfaced—the vocalist is unnamed—but I can only hope there are good things to come. (UPDATE: I've been informed by a commenter that the vocalist is Damon C. Scott.) "Look Right Through" is one of the best techno/house history lessons you could ever hope to hear. Big nods to Detroit and Chicago here, as Geist is known for. One of these days, someone will create the "Cherry Pie" of the disco-house revival, but as long as Geist is still throwing down tracks like this, I'm not sure I'll ever care.

Here's a snippet. (Sorry I can't share the whole track.)
