Squarepusher's last album, Just a Souvenir, was a playful trek into funk and disco stylings—quite a departure from his highly experimental catalog at large. 2009 saw Little Rock rapper and AiMT BFF 607 unleash a small frenzy of flips and remixes on the web. (Download them all after the jump.) This little treasure trove kicked up quite a bit of blog buzz, getting him some shine on Mad Decent along with a chart-topping entry on Hype Machine. Luckily Lord Six tells me that he's wanting to get back on the remix grind, so hopefully we can expect some more eventually.

In his time off from recording remixes, Six hasn't exactly been slacking. He reunited with his brother Bobby (formerly known as Morbid) and recorded two full albums (both of which you can cop over at their Bandcamp page). Years back, they recorded and performed as Trauma Team, but these days they're calling themselves EarFear. Speaking on their two albums, Six describes one as "aggressive" (The Ignit Truth) and the other "calm" (Altar Call). Here's a cut off the former:

UPDATE: So I just discovered (upon Googling "ciara vs guido") that Giographic already blended these two songs back in May. Big time facepalm, but the two versions are different enough that I feel justified keeping this version up. His version seems to use the full version of "Ride," whereas mine just uses the acapella. I'm guessing a proper acapella version wasn't available when he made his back in May. Anyway, freakishly unlikely things happen sometimes. Moving forward.

He will, in turn, send you a download link. (I know this for a fact cos I awreddy got mines.)

And check this Warren Fu-directed video for the original Mark Ronson track. The song is shaping up to be Jam of the Summer. It gets more infectious every time I hear it.

At long last, I got around to adding those booking and advertising sections, so if you'd like to do either of those things (book me or advertise on AiMT), then by all means, holler like Jerry "The King" Lawler!
</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://aimt.us/blog/2010/7/28/sleek-summer-2010-mix.html"><rss:title>Sleek - Summer 2010 Mix</rss:title><rss:link>http://aimt.us/blog/2010/7/28/sleek-summer-2010-mix.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Arkansas Cool Shoes DJ Shawn Lee Little Rock Sleek dubstep</dc:subject>

This summer has seen dubstep spread like poison ivy throughout the state. Central Arkansas has had a strong scene for some time now, but Fayetteville and NWA are beginning to creep into the picture in a big way. From the bass-heavy tents at festivals like Wakarusa, Soulstice, and this weekend's Pronoia to the launch of KXUA's weekly dubstep show, Midrange Optional, to huge nights at Fix with 12th Planet and local Aerosault DJ Domewrekka to countless emerging regional DJs and parties, it's actually getting tough to keep track of it all. (Keep an eye on the NWA Dubstep Facebook page to keep your finger on the pulse.)

Beyond that, West Memphis also has a blossoming scene (and I'll go ahead and assume that Tulsa and Southern Missouri do too, although my connects aren't very deep out there). So all in all, dubstep has become a huge force in the state and in the region at large. I'll be spotlighting some local stuff very soon, but until then, let's shift our focus back to the OGs down in Central Arkansas.

Little Rock-based Cool Shoes homie DJ Shawn Lee has been busy gigging and honing his production skills lately, but he made some time to lay down this solid summer mix showcasing the jarring, aggressive dubstep for which he's known. He even threw a couple of his original numbers into the pot. Catch Sleek alongside myself, Wolf-E-Wolf and Domewrekka on September 10 at Speakeasy. I'll be hitting you up with more info on that really soon.
