From the Vaults #2: Sequin Ambrosia II (2005)

SUBSCRIBE TO ANTS PODCAST: iTUNES, RSS, SOUNDCLOUD, MIXCLOUD, TUMBLR
Sequin Ambrosia: House Music of the Ages was a series I started during my tenure as a staff writer for Stylus Magazine, which closed its doors in 2007. This particular entry from 2005 went heavy on the Berlin-centric minimal house or "microhouse" which was popular at that time.

  1. Murat Tepeli ft. Prosumer - "Rides" [Playhouse Records, 2005]
  2. George Demure - "New Confrontation" [Output Recordings, 2005]
  3. M&M - "Get Off Your Butt" [Trax Records, 1989]
  4. Out Hud - "It’s for You (Rub n' Tug’s Panarava Mix)" [Kranky, 2005]
  5. Adjuster vs. Tonka - "All Over Again (Tonka Mix)" [Disco Inc., 2005]
  6. Maurice - "This Is Acid (A New Dance Craze) (S&T Mix)" [Breakout, 1988]
  7. Michael Mayer & Matias Aguayo - "Slow (Kylie Minogue Cover)" [Kompakt, 2005]
  8. Kylie Minogue - "Giving You Up (Riton Re-Rub Vox)" [Parlophone Records, 2005]
  9. Salamandos - "Jack That Dick" [Bunker Records, 2005]
  10. Matias Aguayo - "Are You Really Lost" [Kompakt, 2005]
  11. Unai - "Oh You and I (Unai 12-Inch Mix)" [Disco Inc., 2005]
  12. Ray Charles - "I Got a Woman (Diplo Remix)" [S/R, 2005]

From the Vaults is an ANTS supplemental series spotlighting older mixes by Baby Armie and occasional guests.

Gentle Daps typically stays tethered to quiet music of the '70s, '80s, and '90s with occasional jaunts into modern music. For VII, I decided to reach further back on the timeline with a playlist of proto new age and sleepy exotica.

  3. The United States of America - "Cloud Song" [Columbia Records, 1968]
  4. Buddy Cole - "Lucky Me" [Warner Bros. Records, 1962]
  5. Tony Scott - "Sanzen" [Verve Records, 1965]
  6. Les Baxter - "Sunken City" [Capitol Records, 1961]
  7. Mario Nascimbene - "Will You Remember (Instrumental)" [United Artists Records, 1962]
  8. The Wozard of Iz - "I've Been Over the Rainbow" [A&M Records, 1968]
  9. Miles Davis - "In a Silent Way (New Mix)" [Columbia Records, 1969]
  10. The Three Suns - "As Long As I'm Dreaming" [Pickwick Records, 1966]
  11. The Electronic Concept Orchestra - "Windmills of Your Mind" [Limelight Records, 1969]

Gentle Daps V: Guest Mix by Douglas Mcgowan

SUBSCRIBE TO ANTS PODCAST: iTUNES, RSS, SOUNDCLOUD, MIXCLOUD, TUMBLR
Douglas McGowan is an author, videographer, label owner, former radio show host, and new age music revivalist. He runs Yoga Records and Ethereal Sequence, and he curated the acclaimed compilation I Am the Center: Private Issue New Age Music in America, 1950-1990. That compilation is my favorite release of 2013, and in many ways it paved the way for projects like Gentle Daps to garner interest in 2014. So I'm elated to present Douglas as the first ever Gentle Daps guest contributor.

It's no secret that Douglas is a longtime collector of cassettes and vinyl. For Gentle Daps V, he dug through his physical collection and digitized a handful of gems, some of which are impossibly rare.

Get acquainted with Douglas' many projects here. Tracklist after the jump.

ANTS Podcast #026: Guest DJ — Holly Waxwing

SUBSCRIBE TO ANTS PODCAST: iTUNES, RSS, SOUNDCLOUD, MIXCLOUD, TUMBLR
When he's not co-managing Noumenal Loom, one of the best active tape labels around these days, Garrett Crosby is cranking out unclassifiably blissed-out saccharine productions under his Holly Waxwing alias. Based out of the tiny liberal arts college town of Montevallo, Alabama, Crosby seems to be having a great year with the label, and his own tracks keep getting better and better. I'm obliged that he stepped up to put together this sun-drenched eclectic ANTS mix, which he's calling Holly Waxwing's Velvet Falernum Warmup.
