Back in February, I played an all early Chicago house set at Wheels of Steel: The Birth of House. The set was recorded, but the recording failed due to bad levels. I've finally gotten around to picking out my favorites from the batch and paired them down to two podcasts. Here's the first.

ANTS Podcast #005: Headphone Disco

Earlier this month, I played two sets at the outdoor stage at Cool Shoes, a longtime AiMT-affiliated monthly I've helped bring to Fayetteville in recent months. My sets were run-throughs of the modern subdued disco movement, many of the tracks being easily categorized as "Balearic." Here are 10 of my favorite selections from these Cool Shoes sets. R.I.Y.L. ANTS Podcast #004: LA Beat Scene

I'm sticking close to the bass-oriented themes of the last two podcasts and venturing into some of my favorite cuts from recent years in the leftfield “beat” scene, which is most prominent in L.A. and led (arguably) by Flying Lotus. Some call it “glitch-hop,” others “hip-hop.” But whatever you call it, J Dilla’s influence is heard resoundingly on just about every track here.

Introducing Baby Armie's ANTS Podcast

ANTS Podcast With Baby Armie

AiMT is nearly five years old now, and I've had a blast with it. But the big problem with it has been that I just don't make time to post regularly. I've put so much of my musical energies into DJing over the past few years that posting individual tracks feels a bit forced and unnecessary. With the launch of the ANTS mixshow podcast, I'm giving myself a new outlet to share music more regularly and naturally in a format that works best for me in the present.

You can expect new podcasts bi-monthly. The format is fully eclectic—I'll share the full spectrum of what I'm vibing with inside and outside of my club/party DJ work. For this week, I've covered some of my favorite newer grime selections, and I have two more podcasts in the archive in case you're still hungry. I'll post all the podcasts here on AiMT, but you can also subscribe on iTunes, Mixcloud, via RSS, or follow on Mixcloud. Read more juicy details on the ANTS Podcast here. . . . . . . . . . . .

Cool Shoes Fayetteville tonight!

Cool Shoes Fayettevilleflyer design by Shawn Lee
It's Friday the 13th, and the amazingly on-point monthly Little Rock party Cool Shoes has come to Fayetteville! I've been pumping Cool Shoes here on AiMT for years now, so I'm very happy to help bring it to my home town. Tonight we've got Cool Shoes residents Wolf-E-Wolf and Cam Holifield along with myself and local DJ/promoter extraordinaire Beat Bachs. The Cool Shoes crew will be bringing down tons of extra sound, lights, and visuals. Hope to see you there.

Enjoy Wolf-E-Wolf's remix of Ronald Jenkees as a teaser for tonight:

CREEP's new Field Day mix

This CREEP mix for the Field Day London festival has been floating around for nearly two months, but it's just now landing on my radar. They threw one of my blends on the playlist, which is a big honor considering I'm a fan of both CREEP and Lauren Flax's various solo and group projects. Hopefully these two will drop an album soon.

Baby Armie, Mandelhog and DJ E-Yo at JR's tomorrow

Just a quick heads up that I'll be DJing alongside Mandelhog (Messy Sparkles' DJ alias) and The Concrete Schoolyard's DJ E-Yo. It will be a highly eclectic night. No telling what we'll end up playing.

Here are a couple of goodies in the meantime, including an unfinished remix for Architecture in Helsinki I got commissioned to do back in '07.

Baby Armie goes internet gold (and other stuff)

This is just a little something in the interim while I climb out of another posting hiatus. My Sean Kingston/Rusko mashup went "internet gold" about a month ago. The download count stacks up past 118,000 at this point.

Also, my Skrillex/G6 mashup has garnered a lot of attention lately, mainly due to a YouTube stream.

Manilla Killa put their own spin on the blend, and you can download it in the Swagged Out, Vol. 1 mashup pack:

Crizzly in Little Rock tonight at Sub Kulture

Just a quick heads up that San Antonio dubstep champ Crizzly is headlining tonight's Sub Kulture at Downtown Music Hall in Little Rock. Here's his take on L.A. Style's '92 techno classic "James Brown Is Dead":

L.A. Style [ft. Big L] - "James Brown Is Dead (Crizzly Remix)"

I'll be opening alongside Wolf-E-Wolf. Stoked!
