Tanner Beam's last set in Fayetteville

Tanner Beam & Baby Armie at SpeakeasyRSVP on Facebook
Check out Sayonara Set, a FREE AiMT-hosted party, on Thursday night at Speakeasy. Tanner and I will be doing sets, and Tanner is moving away soon, so this will be his last set as a Fayetteville resident. We figured this would be a good excuse to host a laid-back non-dance party and throw down some mellow joints. So leave your dancin' shoes at home and come out and sip on some $1 wine (until 11:30) and flirt with hawt locals.

Bombay Brouhaha 2 Tomorrow Night

Bombay Brouhaha 2
The first Bombay Brouhaha was a huge success, so it was inevitable that we would have another. This will almost certainly be our last Bollywood dance party, so for those of you who missed the first one, tomorrow night will be your only opportunity to see/hear/taste what all the fuss is about! Props to KXUA (our official sponsor), Fayetteville Flyer, Ozarks at Large, Friends of India, and other local media/entities for helping us get the word out.

Two reasons to get their early: 1) Catering by our friends at Zauq Pakistani-Indian Cuisine & Grill and 2) $1 wine until 11:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Click to RSVP on Facebook.

There are a few other related events happening this weekend. Tonight, check out KXUA's 10th anniversary, and Friends of India will host Holi Celebrations bright and early tomorrow. Also, here's the party sampler in case you missed it. It's all vintage Bollywood disco. (The party will feature primarily newer bhangra and Bollywood, but we'll have some oldies in there for good measure.)

Bombay Brouhaha Party Sampler Mix

Bombay Brouhaha Party Sampler

Here's a teaser of what you'll be able to hear next Friday, February 5, at Bombay Brouhaha, an official AiMT Bollywood-themed dance party. This will be the second-ever AiMT party, and it will be an altogether different vibe than the first. I'll be throwing down vintage Bollywood (and Lollywood) disco, boogie, funk, etc. Rev. Stiles will cover newer bhangra, and our boy Vivek will tackle modern Bollywood. This particular 30-minute teaser is all disco:

Two key points to keep in mind about this party: 1) It's 18 and up, and 2) FREE ENTRY (unless you're under 21, then there's a $5 cover). It's going down at Speakeasy in Fayetteville and will kick off at 10 p.m. Keep an eye on the Facebook event page for soon-to-be-announce drink specials. Endless props to KXUA for giving this show formal sponsorship.

Big up KXUA's DJ EJ for debuting this mix a few weeks back on Wheels of Steel. It's pretty self-explanatory: a handful of mix-friendly picks from this year. (Okay, so it's not much of a "preview," considering half the lists have already gone up.)

New AiMT Monthly: SOUL GLO!!! This Thursday!!! No Cover!!!

UPDATE: The first Soul Glo was a success, but it's no longer an AiMT-affiliated project. Joëlle is going to do her thing with it and keep the name. I'll be back in '10 with a proper AiMT monthly. It will most likely be a Friday night endeavor. More info to come.

AiMT has been around for over two years, and during this time it's sponsored a handful of events and parties. This Thursday, AiMT will not only sponsor but host its first official dance party: Soul Glo! (Click to RSVP on Facebook if you're in the NWA area.)

FAQ #1: Will Soul Glo be a funk/soul party? No. Soul Glo will feature peppy, club-ready dance music. (Sorry funk/soul enthusiasts.)

If all goes according to plan, Soul Glo will happen monthly. This week will be a sort of trial run, and we'll be back in January in full form. It will initially be a Thursdays-only affair, but depending on how successful it is, it could eventually land on Friday and Saturday nights.

Basically the longevity and future budget of this project will be largely determined by how many people come through the door and how well the bar does. So much is riding on the success of Thursday night, so please come out! If you're in the NWA area, and you've watched AiMT come up, this week will be your opportunity to formally show your support. And it's FREE!

The party will be at Speakeasy (map) and go from 11 p.m. until close (2 a.m.). DJ sets this month by Baby Armie (yours truly) and local artist/DJ Jöelle, who is organizing the monthly with me. (Big up Jöelle!)

Also big up Shawn Lee from the Cool Shoes fam for hooking us up with this flyer!

P.S. If you still haven't heard a Baby Armie DJ set, here's what you can expect.

Beat Bachs' Halloween Dance Party

Attention, locals. In case you haven't gotten the memo yet, Beat Bachs' annual Halloween party is happening this Friday, October 30th. Click to RSVP.

In other Halloween-related news, I belong to The Hairy Smiths, a secret mixtape society of sharebros. This club has turned out some fresh-to-death Halloween mixes in the past few days: one by Beat Bachs and one by Blind Derek Jenkins, both of which are essential Halloween party paraphernalia.

Sean Kingston vs. Rusko - "Fire Burning (Bionic Commando A+B by Baby Armie)"

Sean Kingston vs. Rusko

UPDATE (9/9): This somehow broke the Top 15 on Hype Machine. I'm pretty sure it peaked at #14 with 123 ♥s. Thanks for all the love, everyone.

I did a huge no-no when making this mash-up—I used vocals over the warbly bass parts. I know that's not proper dubstep etiquette, but I couldn't help myself:

• Vocal Source: Sean Kingston - "Fire Burning"
• Instrumental Source: Rusko - "Bionic Commando (Remix)"
Leave me a comment on Soundcloud, and I'll send you a 320 kbps version.
♥ THIS SONG ON THE HYPE MACHINE!

I also made a version for DJs without the machine gun sound at the end. Might make it easier for transitions. Get @ me if you want it.

The Inevitable Michael Jackson Post

I realized at some point yesterday that I would not be able to avoid an MJ post. This man's impact on just about everything AiMT covers cannot be denied, so let's get on with it.

R.I.P. Michael Jackson

I'm not going to ramble on too much. You people know the deal. How about we start with a mix?

Download Captain EO vs. Mr. Big: An MJ Tribute Mix [Direct]

Tracklisting:
00:00: The Jacksons [ft. Mick Jagger] - "State of Shock"
04:32: Tanlines - "MJ Tribute"
06:56: Michael Jackson - "Sunset Driver (Demo)"
10:52: Michael Jackson - "Remember the Time (Don Diablo's 'Song for MJ')"
13:51: Michael Jackson - "P.Y.T. (Demo) (U-Tern Edit)"
19:06: Monsta wit da Fade - "Michael Jackson wit It"
22:40: Michael Jackson - "We Are Here to Change the World" [Theme From Captain EO]
25:13: Michael Jackson - "Thriller (Bird Peterson Remix)"
28:56: Michael Jackson - "Billie Jean (YMO A+B by Baby Armie)"
33:03: Jakwob & Jestar - "Beat It"

This was cobbled together very quickly—no faff, no frills. But I guess I should make one thing resoundingly clear: I don't prefer any of these remixes or covers to their respective original versions. These remixes are just for fun. (Obviously we'll all be hearing plenty of the originals over the next few months.)

Captain EO is a 17-minute 3D film that was shown exclusively at Disney amusement parks (Epcot, Disneyland, etc.) premiering in '86 and closing in most of the parks about 10 years later.

Baby Armie [fka Luminfire] - Big Tyme Nutt Gittaz: The Movement

Click for hi-res

Change is in the air here at AiMT. For starters, I'm hereby changing my DJ alias from the fossilized "Luminfire" to the oh-so-spry "Baby Armie." Don't ask why. It's just the movement.

My last two sets were of the new/old Italo and new wave varieties, but this one has an altogether different vibe. It's more upbeat and a lot closer to what you'd hear me spin live:

Thanks to the Lil' Rock homie Shawn Lee (of Cool Shoes and The Disco Itch fame) for the cover hookup, and thanks to KXUA's longest running DJ, Beat Bachs, for premiering the mix Sunday night on The Digital Earthquake. Expect a few more homegrown DJ sets this week.
