Thursday at George's: The Glitch Mob

The Glitch Mob

LA-based three-piece The Glitch Mob are touring to promote their new album, Drink the Sea, and they'll be stopping by George's on Thursday. You can click here for tickets, but I'm giving away two. Want one?

Check some Glitch Mob goodies below. I've had this remix on repeat all day:

Skream [ft. La Roux] - "Finally"

La Roux

Feeling this not-quite-dubstep collab between Skream and Elly Jackson. Actually it's technically full-on dubstep, but it's much closer to the more subdued, cerebral strain popularized by Hyperdub than the wobble-rific thuds of Rusko or 12th Planet. (But make no mistake—Skream can wobble with the best of them.)

In any case, this is a grade-A collab. Elly turns out a stunning vocal performance. She's obviously come a long way in harnessing her voice since the La Roux sessions back in 2008. And Skream's track is perfectly bleak and apocalyptic. Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but I'll go ahead and say that this is the best collab of its nature since "Teardrop."

La Roux - "I'm Not Your Toy" Video

La Roux is the new Bryan Ferry. Directed by Alex and Liane.

Is it just me, or should this have been the first single?

La Roux [ft. 607, Bobby, Matt Hemerlein & Michael Jackson] - "Bulletproof (Nacey Remix / 607 Rework)"

AiMT and 607 have had at least one thing in common lately: hiatus. My post count has fallen off exponentially in the past two months or so, and 607's famed spell of adventurous flips ended back in April.

Luckily Lord Six is getting back into the studio and churning out some new heat. This is his latest, a rework of Nacey's "Bulletproof" remix. It's also a functional miniaturized MJ tribute. (The end of the rework incorporates a snippet of "Stranger in Moscow.") It's perhaps his best flip yet:

Way back when, 607 recorded and performed with his younger brother Bobby (formerly known as Morbid), and together they were known as Trauma Team. Bobby is on the second verse here, so this one's for you old school 607/Trauma enthusiasts.

Pick up 607's latest album here.

La Roux - "Bulletproof" Video

AiMT is becoming an Elly Jackson fan club, but that's just how it has to be. Just when I think the La Roux project will start losing steam, I hear a few solid new tracks or an exquisitely executed video. The hype keeps justifying itself.

As usual, La Roux's label hasn't been kind enough to list any direction credits for this video, but you should watch it anyway:

Four New La Roux Tracks

La Roux

It's been three months or so since my last big La Roux post. In the interim, Elly's been gigging her lickle red head off. Such gigging has included a few North American dates as well as a live cover performance of Blondie's "Call Me" with Franz Ferdinand at the Shockwaves NME Awards.

In other news, her self-titled album now has a release date (June 29) and a newly leaked tracklisting.

These tracks surfaced within the past few days/weeks. I opted to make this a rare stream-only post simply because I've already given away a chunk of La Roux's album. So if you want MP3s, you'll have to find them elsewhere or—<sarcasm>God forbid</sarcasm>—buy them.
