New Pepperboy album: Nite Time

It wasn't even four months ago that Little Rock's Pepperboy was kind enough to hit us with a free mini album featuring all new material and a Mishka-hosted mixtape, and today he's graced us with a brand new 15-track LP. (Yep, also free.) It's remarkable how Pep's career is 10 years deep, but we can still hear him developing as an artist month by month. Nite Time seems years progressed from Pep's aforementioned efforts, especially when you consider standout tracks like "Funeral," "Joined a Gang," and "Love My Life."

New 607 album: YIK3LIF3!

While I've been busy not blogging, Little Rock's own 607 has found time to drop his 38th album and continue his reign over the Arkansas hip-hop circuit. Back in May, he gave the scene quite a scare with a statement which seemed to announce his immediate retirement. He later clarified by saying that he was only taking some time off to organize, not retiring.

Lucky for us, the wait is over and YIK3LIF3! The Lord and the Duchess is now available. It's 19 tracks strong, and Lord Six was kind enough to set it as a "name your price" endeavor on his Bandcamp. Once you spend some time with it, you can understand why he chose to take a timeout to strategize on how to package this new material. It's probably his most accomplished work to date, both artistically and in terms of commercial appeal. And per usual, there's plenty of variety to appeal to a large listener base. (Expect to hear radio-ready country rap, money-making anthems, even a Boards of Canada flip as you can hear below.)

More Pepperboy: new Mishka mixtape and video

Pepperboy may very well be the busiest man in Arkansas this week. Yesterday he made his new album available for free through NY label Baku Shad-do. Today he's gracing us with the album's accompanying hour-long mixtape presented by Mishka along with a video for his album track "Felon."

Download/stream Pepperboy's new mini-album, Post-Traumatic Stress

Pepperboy's P.T.S.

Little Rock rapper Pepperboy has been making noise about his Post-Traumatic Stress mini-album for well over a month now, teasing us by re-posting its robust cover art several times daily on his personal Facebook account. The album finally dropped today as a free download through NY label Baku Shad-do.

If you've made some time to familiarize yourself with Pep's other recent free releases, all of which you can stream here, then P.T.S.'s eight somber tracks will immediately register as classic Pepperboy: bleak-but-hopeful tales told in a distinctive Southern drawl over a modern selection of ambient-leaning beats by folks like Clams Casino and Blue Sky Black Death. Stream and download the release below:

I confirmed with Pep earlier that Mishka will be putting out P.T.S.'s accompanying mixtape later today. It will feature Lil B, Alaska's Droski Boyz, and Pep's longtime collaborator Temolja.

607 - "AR-tillery"

Our favorite retired on-hiatus Arkansas rapper 607 has just dropped an unreleased track from the sessions of his yet-to-be-released album. He's currently making moves to secure a budget to market this material, so best of luck to him.

Regarding "AR-tillery," 607 puts it best: "If you don't shoot guns, you won't feel my new song." I've found that to be not entirely true, but this joint does go hard:

The End of an Era: Little Rock's Cool Shoes

RSVP on Facebook
It was announced just last week that Cool Shoes, a four-years strong and much-cherished Little Rock EDM monthly, will be throwing its last party tonight. AiMT has been loosely affiliated with Cool Shoes for a long time, so it's definitely sad to see it go. Luckily the Fayetteville chapter of Cool Shoes is still going strong and will be throwing its seventh party tomorrow.

If you've ever had a good time in Little Rock at a Cool Shoes, tonight is your chance to do it one last time. Don't miss it!

Keyboard Kid & Pepperboy - "Stressin'"

Lots of free stuff by Little Rock rapper Pepperboy

I've been a bad Arkansas blogger. I claim to rep AR rap to the fullest. However, Fader, Mishka, Spin, and everyone else on earth seems to have beaten me to Little Rock's Pepperboy, a seasoned AR-bred rapper whose catalog goes back over ten years. . .

Pepperboy's notoriety hit a spike last year when Lil B used one of Pepperboy's beats on his Bitch Mob mixtape. One thing led to another, and now it's safe to say that Pepperboy's name is officially buzzing. It's good timing too because 2012 has been a very active year for him, and he's been kind enough to give away tons of tracks and full releases on his Bandcamp page.

607 announces he's no longer releasing music

Longtime AiMT favorite 607 sent a ripple through the AR hip-hop community earlier this week when he announced that he will no longer release music. Today he clarified that he's not retiring from music—he's just putting the music on hold and trying to get a proper budget together for his next project. I support Lord Six's decision to slow things down and explore other avenues. Here's hoping he makes that dough and comes back soon.

Long-known for his unyielding work ethic, 607 recorded 37 albums over he past 12 years—that's three albums per year on average. Since summer of 2010, he has recorded one solo album and four EarFear albums. (EarFear is his duo with his brother Bobby.) As a parting gift, he's made all five albums available for free download for a limited time. Get them all here and here.

On top of that, Lord Six gave me permission to upload the flips he did for AiMT onto a SoundCloud set. He's submitted 12 flips since 2009. His take on Crookers' "What Up Y'all" made it to #2 on Hype Machine. His flip of Rich Boy's "Drop" got reblogged by Mad Decent. And his verse on a Diplo beat placed #2 in Mad Decent's Makin Xmas competition.

This SoundCloud set features 10 flips. You can download all 12 here.

More 607 goodies after the jump.
