Pepperboy & S. Ray - Hard 2 Cope

Little Rock's own Pepperboy continues his frenzy of new releases with his latest free LP, Hard 2 Cope, and he's kinda enough to let me premiere it. It's a collaboration with Greenova South newcomer S. Ray and features guest spots by Kobizzle and Main Attrakionz' Squadda B! Download it over at the Greenova South Bandcamp page.

Pepperboy - 3 Volleys (Free Album)

Hot off the heels of a SXSW performance and a collaboration EP with 607, Arkansas' hardest working rapper, Pepperboy, is back today with his 14th release in only two years time. Like his last few projects, 3 Volleys is a free full length LP out on the southern division of Main Attrakionz' Greenova label.

Pepp has kept his infatuation with military imagery no secret, and 3 Volleys is his first military-themed concept album. If you need a crash course on Pepperboy, don't forget to read my interview and dissection of his discography from last October: A Layman's Guide to Pepperboy.

Pepperboy & 607 - Mixed Messages EP

Pep messaged me earlier this week and hinted at a surprise collab EP with 607, but I had no idea when we could expect it or how likely it would be to even come together. Needless to say I didn't expect to wake up this morning with the completed EP in my inbox.

For many Arkansas rap fans out there, this EP will be a big deal. Both Lord Six and Pep are highly prolific and visible, not to mention they're both over a decade deep into their output and have both hit huge spikes of national notoriety in recent months and years. So it makes a lot of sense for them to come together and release a proper collaboration project.

Anyway I'll have more to say about this later, but I wanted to at least post it for now:

Pepperboy's Str8 off the Block 5 now on cassette

You can now cop a limited cassette edition of Pepperboy's Str8 off the Block 5: Really Real courtesy of Anti-Party Music. It is one of eight albums the Little Rock rapper dropped in 2013. (If you haven't read my Pepperboy feature from back in October, do so now!!

A Layman's Guide to Pepperboy

Over the past year or two, Little Rock's Pepperboy has become an unlikely seasoned hero in the Internet-centric cloud rap movement. His first spike in national attention can be traced back to April, 2011, when Lil B borrowed a Pep beat for his track "My Life." This tiny blip on hip-hop's expansive timeline saw Pep keeping in touch with Lil B and forming even closer ties with some of B's Cali constituents, namely Keyboard Kid and Main Attrakionz' Squadda B.

These and other connections have served him well, but Pep's real key to a maintained visibility has been his ability to seize the moment. He saw the interest in his work climbing, and he responded with a monsoon of creative output, resulting in 12 releases over the course of the last 19 months. Most of these 12 releases are full length albums, and they've landed him press with Spin, Fader, Mishka, MTV Hive and a host of other sites.

In this feature we'll take a look at all 12 releases and ask Pep some questions along the way to gain a bit of incite on the significance of each album. This list is chronological minus the first entry, which is the AiMT premiere of Pep's latest offering.

Pepperboy - "Lost" Video

Here's Pep's take on Lil B's "Unchain Me" beat. You can grab it on his newish EP, The Classic (Remastered).

As a bonus, here's Pep's latest collab with Main Attrakionz' Squadda B. It happens to have my favorite cover art of the year so far.
