Major Lazer [ft. Ms. Thing] - "When You Hear the Bassline"

Gay Fish & Major Lazer

Oddly enough, this is only my second Major Lazer post. Usually I hype any larger Mad Decent project into oblivion, but this one I've been taking it easy with because seemingly every other blog on the planet has been holding it down hard.

This Ms. Thing choon is probably my favorite off the album:

The Dance Area remix ain't bad either. You can pick it up on the iTunes release of the album.

Speaking of which, Guns Don't Kill People...Lazers Do is out today on Downtown. Buy it off Amazon ($9.49), iTunes ($9.99—with bonus tracks).

BONUS: "Hold the Line" [ft. Mr. Lexx & Santigold] [dir. by Ferry Gouw:

Amanda Blank - "Might Like You Better" [prod. by XXXchange]

(via RCRD LBL)

Amanda Blank

Amanda Blank first popped up on my radar on the Spank Rock '06 oldie "Bump." Since then, I've been fixated on her freakishly on-point XXX golden age flow. But sadly, my obsession has remained largely unquenched due to Blank's general lack of output. Despite her tremendous ability, she's only appeared on a handful of collaborations. (Let's face it—we've all been bumping the same five or six Blank verses for years.) But even without a hearty discography, she's remained one of the most exciting things happening in Philly. (And if you keep up with Philly, you'll know that's saying a lot.)

All my fellow Blankheads can breathe a sigh of relief at long last because she's inked a deal with Warner sublabel Downtown, and her album, I Love You, which is slated to feature production from XXXchange, Diplo and Switch, should drop July 14. Read the full scoop over at Pitchfork.

The NSFW XXXchange-produced (and Switch-co-produced) "Might Like You Better" is the first track from said album, and it sounds exactly like it's supposed to: poppy, sexed-out, danceable, remixable, all that good stuff.

Thanks to Fully Fitted for the heads up.

Major Lazer [ft. Andy Milonakis] - "Zumbi"

Andy Milonakis

This popped up on my radar a few days ago. I didn't even bother posting it initially because I assumed the PMA-minded blog universe would collectively and immediately overexpose it. Strangely, it hasn't yet landed on any of the "bigger" blogs I watch. That's somewhat perplexing. I wonder if there's some pact between the Mad Decent fam and the upper crust blogosphere that this particular track is off limits. If so, I didn't get the memo, so here you go.

For those of you not in the know, Major Lazer is the dancehall project of Switch and Diplo. They've been talking about the project for well over a year now, and we'll finally get to hear the full fruits of their labor on June 16, when their album will drop on Downtown Music.

On "Zumbi," the Shmilosmakis' hyper-faux ragga freestyle chant will keep your diaphragm active while Switch and Diplo's minimalist dancehall thud will make you want to get rill hostile up in the club:

In other Mad Decent news, cumbia/raverton king Toy Selectah released a free full length album of his remixes last night. If only I had this when I DJed for a very impatient salsa crowd a few weeks back. Click here to get the zip.
